알레한드로는 각 도시를 탐험하며 작가 자신이 느낀 세상을 창문을 통해 우리에게 보여주기도하고,
창을 통해 반사되는 모습을 통해 작가 자신을 바라 보게 된다. 작가는 이런 이중성을 이용하여 관람객 또한 사진을 통해
옛순간의 기억을 떠 올리거나 혹은 새로운 무언가를 발견 하도록 만들며 옛순간과 새로운 순간을 교묘하게 결합시킨다.
그 의 작품속 도시에서 관람객은 데쟈뷰(déjàvu: 지금 자신에게 일어나는 일을 전에도 경험한 적이 있는 것 같이 느끼는 것)
현상과 자메이부( jamai vu: 실제로 잘 알고 있으면서도 처음 경험하는 듯이 느끼는 기억 착각) 현상을 함께 경험하게 된다.
작가는 작품들을 통해 오래된 기억이 희미해지거나 변형되고, 새로운 장소가 갑자기 익숙하게 다가오기도 하는
이미지의 특성을 보여준다.
Alejandro Martinez has lived in five different countriesover the past eight years.
Although traveling began as an attempt to find an ideal outside of himself,
he claims that this journey has been as much of exploration as self-revelation.
Photography is a means to record new experiences and remember old ones and with time these two begin to meld
together. Memories fade or transform and suddenly new places become saturated with familiarity.
It is easy to lose oneself in this constant barrage of experiences. When words fail to accurately retell our lives,
all that remains are the images that connect us to those moments that are long gone and the ones we are living in.
Through photography the new becomes familiar and the familiar is reborn as extraordinary.
